Shots From March 25
These are shots taken from today. I tried tone mapping an image made from the SLT-A35’s inbuilt Auto-HDR feature, set at -+3EV and the results were disappointing. There was too much noise and similar images taken even at -+0.7 EV steps produced much better results. I think a higher EV stepping would make the photo above not look so overcooked. At the moment I’m guessing the only solution is to shoot in RAW and increase the exposure stepping to +2 and -2 to get a greater dynamic range. I just hope that Sony will release a firmware update increasing the EV stepping for the AEB function just like the A900 and A850, because I’m sure it isn’t a hardware limitation if it can do up to -+6EV in Auto HDR mode. Anyway check out the gallery below
HDR with the A35
I’ve been playing around with my new camera and seeing how well it performs for HDR. It has an inbuilt HDR function, but the results are pretty average. The Auto Exposure Bracketing is also really weak, and the maximum steps in EV it provides is -+0.7, even the 1100d can provide -+2. Anyway here are a few shots I’ve taken today:
Fiona Stanley Hospital
This is the new Fiona Stanley hospital being built in Perth, it is right next to the St. John of God hospital. These photos were taken by the Sony SLT-A35 which uses translucent mirror technology. It has really good noise reduction software inbuilt for jpegs but it is very obvious in raw and this is one of the weaknesses of the SLTs.
This photo was shot in Raw, it had a lot more noise (even at ISO 100) compared to the jpeg but post processing helped the image a lot.
